Abstract

  • The number of workforce in South Sumatra in August 2014 reached 3,885,674 people, an increase of about 181,542 people compared to the August 2013 workforce of 3,704,132 people or a decrease of 136,464 people compared to February 2014 of 4,022,138 people.
  • The number of people working in South Sumatra Province in August 2014 reached 3,692,806 people, an increase of around 167,923 people compared to the situation in August 2013 which was 3,524,883 people or decreased by around 174,865 people compared to the situation in February 2013 which was 3,867,671 people.
  • The Open Unemployment Rate (TPT) in South Sumatra Province in February 2014 reached 4.96 percent, an increase compared to the August 2013 TPT of 4.84 percent and the February 2014 TPT of 3.84 percent.
  • In the August 2014 period, the majority of the population worked in the agriculture, plantation, forestry, hunting and fisheries sectors, which accounted for around 53.37 percent of the entire population employed.
  • Based on the number of hours worked in August 2014, 2,142,274 people (58.01 percent) worked above 35 hours per week, while the population worked with less than 15 hours per week reaching 193,720 people (5.25 percent)
  • In August 2014, the population working at the elementary school level and below still dominated, namely 1,853,579 people (50.19 percent), while the population worked with diploma education at 93,726 people (2.54 percent) and the population worked with university education only amounted to 267,481 people (7.24 percent).
