Abstract
1. Farmers Exchange Rate (NTP) * South Sumatra in August 2014 amounted to 101.40 percent, indicating that in general the purchasing power of farmers in August 2014 was better than the base year of 2012. However, when compared to the previous month, the August 2014 NTP decreased by 1.34 percent due to a decrease in the price index received by farmers while the price index paid by farmers in general has increased.
2. South Sumatra Agricultural Exchange (NTUP) in August2014 amounted to 105.53 percent, indicating that in general the purchasing power of farmers in August2014 was better than the base year of 2012. However, when compared to the previous month, NTUP in August2014 fell by 1, 18 percent.
3. The NTP without the South Sumatra Fisheries Sector in August 2014 was 101.36 percent, indicating that in general the purchasing power of farmers in August 2014 was better than the base year of 2012. However, when compared to the previous month, the NTP without fisheries in August 2014 fell by 1 , 39 percent.
4. NTUP without the South Sumatra Fisheries Sector in August 2014 amounted to 105.51 percent, indicating that in general the purchasing power of farmers in August 2014 was better than the base year of 2012. However, when compared to the previous month, NTUP in August 2014 decreased by 1.23 percent.
5. Based on the NTP and NTUP sub-sectors, in August 2014 almost all sub-sectors experienced a decline compared to July 2014 except the livestock sub-sector. The NTP and NTUP which experienced the highest decline occurred in the community plantation sub-sector, which fell 2.07 percent and 1.96 percent respectively, the food crops sub-sector fell 1.17 percent and 0.97 percent, the horticulture sub-sector fell 0.69 percent and 0.50 percent, and the fisheries sub-sector fell 0.17 percent and 0.07 percent. While the NTP and NTUP animal husbandry sub-sectors experienced an increase of 0.15 percent 0.30 percent.
6. Rural inflation / deflation is indicated by changes in the price index of goods and services consumed by farm households. In August 2014 rural areas in South Sumatra experienced inflation of 0.35 percent, all expenditure groups experienced inflation. The highest inflation occurred in the processed foods, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco group of 0.73 percent.
