Abstract

  • The city of Palembang in March 2014 experienced inflation of -0.20 percent (deflation). The cumulative inflation rate from 2014 to March was 0.62 percent and the year on year inflation rate (March 2014 to March 2013) was 5.25 percent.
  • Based on seven (7) expenditure groups, two (2) groups experienced a decrease in price index, namely the foodstuffs group by -1.23 percent; housing, water, electricity, gas & fuel group by -0.16 percent, while five (5) groups experienced price increases, namely the health group 0.74 percent; processed foods, beverages, cigarettes & tobacco group of 0.34 percent; clothing group by 0,27 percent; the transportation, communication & financial services group by 0,02 percent; and the education, recreation and sports group by 0.01 percent ..
  • Commodities that experienced price declines with the highest deflation share in Palembang included: red chillies, broiler chicken eggs, vegetable tomatoes, boards, raw tofu, and cork fish. While commodities that experienced price increases with the highest share of inflation included Siamese sepat fish, shallots, prescription drugs, filter clove cigarettes and gold jewelry.
  • The city of Lubuk Linggau in March 2014 experienced inflation of -0.13 percent (deflation). The cumulative inflation rate from 2014 to March was 0.82 percent and the year on year inflation rate (March 2014 to March 2013) was 3.90 percent.
  • Commodities that experienced price declines with the highest deflation share in Lubuk Linggau City during March 2014 included: tomato vegetables, cucumbers, beef, and broiler eggs. While commodities that experienced an increase in prices with the highest share of inflation included carp, household fuels, cooking oil and garlic.
  • Based on the calculation of inflation in the city of Palembang and the city of Lubuk Linggau, in March 2014 the South Sumatra Province experienced inflation of -0, 19 percent (deflation).
  • Based on price monitoring during March 2014 in 82 CPI cities in Indonesia, it showed that 45 cities experienced inflation and 37 cities experienced deflation. The highest inflation occurred in the city of Marauke (1.15 percent), the lowest occurred in the cities of Kediri and Makassar (0.02 percent). While the highest deflation was in Tual (-2.43 percent), the lowest was in Sorong (-0.02 percent). According to the regional region of Sumatra Island, out of 23 CPI cities in this region, 7 cities experienced inflation and 16 cities experienced deflation. The highest inflation occurred in Pematang Siantar City (0.59 percent), the lowest in Bengkulu City (0.04 percent). The highest deflation occurred in Pangkal Pinang City (-1.76 percent), the lowest in Padang Sidempuan City (-0.05 percent).
