Abstract

  • The city of Palembang in February 2014 experienced inflation of -0.24 percent (deflation). The cumulative inflation rate from 2014 to February was 0.82 percent and the year on year inflation rate (February 2014 to February 2013) was 6.13 percent.
  • Based on seven (7) expenditure groups, two (2) groups experienced a decrease in price index, namely the foodstuffs group by -1.36 percent; housing, water, electricity, gas & fuel group by -0.02 percent, while five (5) groups experienced price increases, namely the clothing group by 0.34 percent; health group 0.28 percent; processed foods, beverages, cigarettes & tobacco group of 0.16 percent; education, recreation and sports group of 0.03 percent; and the transportation, communication & financial services group by 0.02 percent.
  • Commodities that experienced price declines with the highest deflation share in the city of Palembang included: shallots, red chillies, purebred meat, beef and bricks. While commodities that experienced price increases with the highest share of inflation included wages for domestic workers, squid, water spinach and gold jewelery.
  • The city of Lubuk Linggau in February 2014 experienced inflation of -0.41 percent (deflation). The cumulative inflation rate from 2014 to February was 0.95 percent and the year on year inflation rate (February 2014 to February 2013) was 5.50 percent.
  • Commodities that experienced price declines with the highest deflation share in Lubuk Linggau City during February 2014 included: shallots, red chillies, broiler chicken meat, and household fuel and anchovies. While commodities that experienced an increase in prices with the highest share of inflation included, among others, tilapia, milk for toddlers, cayenne potatoes and sardencis.
  • Based on the calculation of inflation in the city of Palembang and the city of Lubuk Linggau, in February 2014 the South Sumatra Province experienced inflation of -0.26 percent (deflation).
  • Based on price monitoring during February 2014 in 82 CPI cities in Indonesia, it showed that 55 cities experienced inflation and 27 cities experienced deflation. The highest inflation occurred in Pontianak (2.73 percent), the lowest occurred in Bandar Lampung and Probolinggo (0.02 percent). While the highest deflation occurred in the city of Sibolga (-2.43 percent), the lowest occurred in the cities of Tanjung and Balikpapan (-0.18 percent). According to the regional region of Sumatra it was stated that 23 CPI cities in this region, 9 cities experienced inflation and 14 cities experienced deflation. The highest inflation occurred in the city of Tanjung Pinang (0.87 percent), the lowest in the city of Bandar Lampung (0.02 percent). The highest deflation occurred in Sibolga (-2.43 percent), the lowest in Palembang and Bengkulu (-0.24 percent).
