Abstract

  • Farmer Exchange Rate (NTP) * South Sumatra in March 2014 amounted to 100.99 percent, indicating that in general the purchasing power of farmers in March 2014 was better than the base year of 2012. When compared to the previous month, March 2014 NTP increased by 0.18 percent due to an increase in the price index received by farmers while the price index paid by farmers in general has decreased.
  • The Agricultural Business Exchange Rate (NTUP) of South Sumatra in March 2014 was 105.06 percent, indicating that in general the purchasing power of farmers in March 2014 was better than the base year of 2012. However, when compared to the previous month, NTUP in March 2014 decreased by 0.02 percent.
  • The NTP without the South Sumatra Fisheries Sector in March 2014 was 101.01 percent, indicating that in general the purchasing power of farmers in March 2014 was better than the base year of 2012. When compared to the previous month, the NTP without fisheries in March 2014 increased by 0.20 percent .
  • NTUP Without the South Sumatra Fisheries Sector in March 2014 was 105.13 percent, compared to the previous month NTUP in March remained unchanged.
  • Based on the NTP sector, in March 2014 only the NTP of the smallholder and livestock sector experienced an increase compared to the previous month, each increasing 0.49 percent and 0.17 percent. While the food crop sector fell 0.12 percent, horticulture 0.27 percent, and fisheries fell 0.25 percent.
  • NTUP in the plantation and livestock sector in March 2014 also increased when compared to February 2014. NTUP in the plantation sector increased by 0.32 percent and the livestock sector increased by 0.08 percent. The food crops, horticulture and fisheries sectors experienced a decrease of 0.40 percent, 0.61 percent and 0.45 percent respectively.
  • Rural inflation / deflation is indicated by changes in the price index of goods and services consumed by farm households. In March 2014 rural areas in South Sumatra experienced a deflation of 0.07 percent, deflation was mainly due to a decrease in prices in the foodstuffs sub-group which experienced a deflation of 0.65 percent
